Northeast Conference Football Release (9/7)
|
The season’s first installment of the NEC’s weekly football awards program honors five men who all contributed to lid-lifting victories. Albany was the first NEC team to kick off the 2010 slate and received a career-high 129 rushing yards from NEC Offensive Player of the Week Andrew Smith in a 3-0 win at Maine. Making 13 tackles, NEC Defensive Player of the Week Nathan Totino was at the forefront of a Duquesne defense that allowed only 173 yards of total offense in a 17-13 triumph over Bucknell. The NEC Special Teams Player of the Week award goes to Bryant running back Jordan Brown whose 70-yard punt return for a touchdown helped the Bulldogs build a 20-0 lead in an eventual 44-30 win over Fordham. Two men share the NEC Rookie of the Week award. Bryant’s Jordan Harris made four receptions for 98 yards, including a 44-yard TD catch that opened the game’s scoring. Meanwhile, Sacred Heart’s Gregory Ibe logged 97 rushing yards and two scores to help carry Sacred Heart past Marist.

MU's Ryan Kinne & Jacob Rubinstein

Following a 2-0 start to the season, Monmouth swept the inaugural installment of the 2010 men's soccer weekly award program. Monmouth senior midfielder Ryan Kinne was tabbed the adidas/Northeast Conference Player of the Week. Kinne, the reigning NEC Player of the Year and a first team All-American, was named the MVP of the Save Face WVU Classic over the weekend after he helped lead the 7th-ranked Hawks to the tournament title. The midfielder had a hand in all three Monmouth goals, scoring twice and adding an assist. He scored twice in a 2-0 win over Binghamton, including a direct kick from outside the 18-yard box to open the scoring. Monmouth freshman forward Jacob Rubinstein was named adidas/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week following a memorable debut for the Hawks. Rubinstein scored the game-winner in the 105th minute of a 1-0 victory at West Virginia after he settled a Kinne cross and slotted it past the Mountaineer keeper. Monmouth has climbed into the top-10 in all three national polls. The Hawks are ranked seventh in the nation in the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com poll, sixth by College Soccer News and eighth by Soccer America.
