Oakland, CA -- 2006 Wagner College graduate Andrew Bailey has reached the summit. After three successful minor league seasons, the hard-throwing Bailey has been named to the Oakland Athletics’ opening day 25-man roster.
Bailey, who graduated as the school’s all-time strikeout leader, becomes the second former Seahawk to crack the professional ranks, preceded only by 1965 American League Rookie of the Year Curt Blefary.
A non-roster invitee, Bailey was unscored upon in 11 of his 12 spring outings out of the bullpen.
Oakland manager and former New York Yankee Bob Geren said that Bailey, who was a sixth round pick in the 2006 Major League First-Year Player Draft, will see time in long relief and also situational relief.
The Athletics open their season on Monday, April 6 at the Los Angeles Angels. Oakland travels to New York to square off with the Yankees for three games, starting on Monday, April 20.
