Quinnipiac Takes Home Fourth Consecutive NEC Women’s Cross Country Title 11/1/2008

Holmdel, NJ -- For the fourth year in a row, Quinnipiac bested the Northeast Conference to win the 2008 NEC Women’s Cross Country Championship. Bobcats’ senior Chelsea Bollerman (Little Silver, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) turned in a first-place time of 18:28.3 on the 5K Holmdel Park course, while Wagner’s Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) claimed second place (18:37.2) en route to her third all-NEC honor. Monmouth’s Cailin Lynam (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) crossed the finish line in 18:46.9, as the junior landed in third place for the second straight year.
Quinnipiac had four runners finish in the top-14, each earning all-Conference accolades and propelling the Bobcats to the team title with 32 points. Sacred Heart also had four all-NEC performers in its second place finish (62), while Monmouth claimed third with two all-league harriers and 76 points. Saint Francis (PA), which is home to two all-Conference honorees, scored 113 points and Central Connecticut State totaled 129 points to round out the top-five. Wagner’s 157-point effort was good for sixth, while Robert Morris (192), Mount St. Mary’s (209), Bryant (249), Long Island (290), St. Francis (NY) (310) and Fairleigh Dickinson (349) completed the field.
Bollerman earned her first NEC Outstanding Performer award, while teammate Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) took home NEC Freshman of the Year honors following a fourth-place time of 18:48. Quinnipiac’s Shawn Green garnered his third straight NEC Coach of the Year award. The Bobcats also had two more runners finish with all-league recognition, including rookie Katherine Beam (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor) in fourth and junior Lindsey Pierret (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) in seventh place with times of 18:54.0 and 19:13.0, respectively.
Sacred Heart freshman Mekenzie Krause (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) led the Pioneers with a time of 19:12.8, good for a sixth-place standing and all-Conference recognition. Brittany Llobell (West Sayville, NY/Sayville) took ninth clocking in at 19:21, Dana Troy (Lebanon, CT/Lyman Memorial) captured 11th in 19:22.4 and Samantha Troy (Lebanon, CT/Lyman Memorial) finished 12th (19:23.2) as they each earned all-NEC accolades
All-Conference performer, junior Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, PA/Mohawk) ran to an eighth-place finish (19:13.6) to pace Saint Francis (PA), while senior captain Shannon Kovack (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) earned her second consecutive spot on the all-NEC list with a time of 19:30.3 and 13th place.
Monmouth’s Christine Altland (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) helped the Hawks to their third-place team standing as she picked up all-league recognition with a time of 19:21.9 to round out the top-10, while Central Connecticut State’s Katherine Bossardet (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) completed the list of 2008 NEC All-Conference harriers with a 14th-place time of 19:32.7.
