printable version

Top-seeded Central Connecticut State won its fourth straight NEC women's soccer title on Sunday in New Britain, CT.  The Blue Devils stopped #2 seed Long Island, 1-0, with the lone goal coming off the foot of junior forward Jessica McCavanagh in the 65th minute.  McCavanagh, who also scored in CCSU's 2-0 semifinal victory over #4 seed Sacred Heart on Friday, was named Tournament Most Valuable Player.  The Blackbirds had advanced to the title match by ousting #3 seed St. Francis (PA), 1-0.  CCSU, which has won 12 straight, will represent the NEC as the league's automatic qualifier in first round NCAA College Cup play beginning on Friday, November 12 at campus sites.  NCAA pairings will be announced on Monday, November 7 at 5:00 pm on ESPN News.
