  FDU WBB Team Preview

Fairleigh Dickinson

2006-07 Overall Record:
  11-18
2006-07 NEC Record/Finish:   8-10/7th
2006-07 NEC Tournament Result:   Lost in quarterfinal, 69-55, to Robert Morris

Fairleigh Dickinson has not had a 20-win season since 1992, but if anyone knows how to win 20 games it is new head coach Peter Cinella. In 14 seasons at AIC, Cinella’s teams posted nine 20-win season en route to making their mentor the winningest coach in program history. FDU’s four returning starters should help ease Cinella’s transition into the NEC. Senior forward Jennifer Walking (Westminster, MD/Westminster) and sophomore guard Jordan Sykes (Avalon, NJ/Holy Spirit) were a productive, consistent inside-out combination last year with each player starting in all 28 games. Walking tallied 12 double-doubles en route to averaging team highs in points (11.7 ppg) and rebounds (8.4 rpg). Sykes tallied 11.0 points per game, while leading the conference in free throw percentage (89.9). Senior guard Shanay Freeman (Laurelton, NJ/Townsend Harris) (9.4 ppg and 3.6 rpg) and sophomore forward Christy Altamirano (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) (9.4 ppg and 5.9 rpg) are also returning starters.
