For the first time in six weeks, someone other than FDU anchor Danielle McEwan is the NEC Bowler of the Week. Daunno, a New Jersey City junior, took the spotlight after leading the Gothic Knights to a 10-1 record this past weekend (Feb. 10-12). Seeing time in the set-up, lead-off, and anchor positions as NJCU contested Delaware State’s Capital City Classic, Daunno averaged a team-high 20.64 pins per frame bowled over the course of the three-day competition. She spearheaded New Jersey City’s second-place finish by filling 90.4 percent of frames bowled. Helping the Gothic Knights win their first 10 matches before they suffered a 4-3 best-of-seven baker loss to No. 13 Norfolk State in the tournament final, Daunno left only 11 opens over a 114-frame sample. Daunno, who threw 60 strikes in 131 attempts throughout the entire course of the meet, posted the second-highest individual traditional game average (204.4) of all 65 keglers on hand and earned a spot on the All-Classic Team as a result. Thanks to help from Daunno’s 216 game, the Gothic Knights topped the 13th-ranked Spartans by a 1056-875 margin on the meet’s second day. Daunno was even sharper during the baker play portion of the meet, accounting for 20.8 pins per frame over six baker matches.
