Robert Morris Captures Second Straight Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Title
Dallas Green deflected a potential game-winning shot then sank two free throws with seven seconds left as Robert Morris beat Quinnipiac 52-50 on Wednesday night for its second straight Northeast Conference championship before a sellout crowd at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, CT. Green got a piece of James Feldeine’s 3-point jumper with 10 seconds left and Robert Morris leading 50-48. His free throws gave the Colonials a four-point lead, and they held on for the win. Tournament MVP Karon Abraham, a freshman guard, scored 16 points to lead the Colonials (23-11), and Green and Russell Johnson each added nine. Robert Morris is headed to the NCAA tournament for the seventh time. Robert Morris became the first NEC team to repeat as champion since Rider in 1993 and 1994.

Northeast Conference Hoops - Best of Decade: Oh My!
As part of its Championship Week coverage, the Northeast Conference will revisit its top moments in men’s and women’s basketball from the past decade. Northeast Conference Greatest Hoops Moments: Best of the Decade will take fans on a tour of the 2000s. Beginning on Thursday, March 4, the NEC will highlight a different memorable moment each day until Championship Week concludes with the women’s final on March 14. The Robert Morris men punched their ticket to the Big Dance on Wednesday night by outlasting Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT. The Colonials will wait to see where the NCAA Selection Committee sends them next, and when they get there they can only hope to have a moment like Fairleigh Dickinson and Tamien Trent had in the 2005 First Round. Today’s moment remembers the time when FDU went toe to toe with top-seeded Illinois.

NEC Championship Week Feature - The Shot: Four Seconds from Glory
It's the picture-perfect scenario that little kids dream about on playgrounds across America. It's what happened right here in the Northeast Conference during a month when dreams are known to come true. A pair of dynamic scorers matching each other shot for shot, a frantic finish, a buzzer-beating basket, a raucous crowd packed up into the rafters - the 1993 NEC Championship game had it all. Bobby Hopson was mere moments away from being named NEC Tournament MVP – that’s what the game-winning shot and a team-high 32 points will get you. Wagner's Tim Capstraw was on the verge of coaching his alma mater into the NCAA tournament while his Rider counterpart Kevin Bannon would have to wait until next year. Darrick Suber was about to see his most illustrious playing career end in a most disappointing fashion. But all that changed in a matter of four seconds. Click here to watch the memorable finish to this game.
