Quinnipiac’s Craig Cyr Named NEC Men’s Golfer of the Year

Monmouth’s Anthony Campanile Selected NEC Rookie of the Year

Somerset, NJ -- Quinnipiac junior Craig Cyr (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke), who posted five top-10 finishes this year, including two tournament wins and a fourth-place tie at the 2005 Northeast Conference Championship, was selected by conference head coaches as the NEC Men’s Golfer of the Year. Monmouth freshman Anthony Campanile (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) earned NEC Rookie of the Year honors after winning the individual title at the 2005 NEC Championship, which was played on May 2-3 at Quicksilver Golf Course in Midway, PA.

Cyr broke through this spring to earn his first-ever all-NEC accolade at this year’s NEC Tournament. The Pembroke, NH product carded a 151 (73-78) for the two-day event to tie for first place. Overall, Cyr fired 22-of-23 sub-80 rounds in 2004-05, including scores of 70 at the Dartmouth Invitational and Toski Invitational. The junior averaged 74.7 strokes per round this year and finished among the top-15 in eight tournaments. Cyr also captured titles at the Hofstra Fall Invitational and Toski Invitational last October.

Campanile, who saved his best for last at the NEC Championship, shot a 149, including a season-low 72 in round one, to earn the league crown as a freshman. Campanile fired 20 sub-80 rounds this year and posted six top-10 finishes. The Manahawkin, NJ native averaged 77.9 strokes per round this year is one of three freshman to earn all-NEC honors joining Central Connecticut State’s Matt McClure (Orangeville, Ontario/Westside) and Bryce Fearon (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy).

Along with Cyr and Campanile, the following players round out the 2005 all-NEC men’s golf team, based upon their finish at this year’s NEC Tournament.
