After playing to a scoreless deadlock for 82 minutes, Monmouth junior Damon Wilson (Swedesboro, NJ/St. Andrew’s) notched his second goal of the weekend to give the Hawks their second NEC Men's Soccer Championship with a 1-0 win over Saint Francis (PA) in the NEC title game at the Great Lawn in West Long Branch, NJ. Wilson’s goal came with 8:01 left in the second half, when the midfielder blasted a left footer from 18 yards out that snuck in the top right corner of the Red Flash goal. NEC Player of the Year Steven Holloway (Hamilton, New Zealand/Hamilton Boys High) was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. “It’s a tremendous achievement for the program,” said Monmouth head coach Rob McCourt. “I am happy for our guys. I want to thank the administration for their support. We feel like we have a lot more soccer yet to play." The Hawks will now advance to NCAA College Cup action next weekend. The NCAA bracket will be announced on Monday afternoon between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm Eastern time on ESPNews.
