Final Results
Landover, MD - Gardner-Webb captured its third consecutive NEC Swimming & Diving Championship crown with 742 points, outdistancing its nearest competitor by 135 points. Central Connecticut State finished in second with 607 points, followed by Wagner (499 pts.), Georgia Southern (409.50 pts.) and Radford (380.50 pts.) to round out the top five teams. Three meet records fell on the final day of competition, while two NCAA-B qualifying standards were met.
The Bulldogs’ Terra Wilson (Potter Vally, CA/Deep Valley) earned the Outstanding Swimmer award, while CCSU’s Juliana DiPlacido (Mount Royal, Quebec/Dawson) took home her third career Outstanding Diver honor. Rookie of the Meet honors went to Radford’s Agnes Mago (Kecskemet, Hungary/Boiyai Janos). GWU head coach Mike Simpson was tabbed NEC Coach of the Year by his peers for the third consecutive year.
Wilson won the 100 free in 49.95, tying her meet record from last season and meeting NCAA-B standards to collect her second individual gold en-route to being named Outstanding Swimmer. The junior collected the gold a day earlier in the 200 free with a new meet record and NCAA-B qualifying standard of 1:48.28 and posted a runner-up performance in the 50 free. Wilson also swam the opening leg of the record-setting 800 free relay and 400 free relay squads.
DiPlacido captured both the one-meter (218.45 pts.) and three-meter diving (224.70 pts.) events en-route to her Outstanding Diver award. The senior finishes her career with seven career NEC diving crowns. Mago tallied three individual gold medals throughout the championship on her way to being named Rookie of the Meet. The rookie won the 200 fly title with a new meet record of 2:01.97. She also captured the 500 -free on day one (4:54.21) and the 400 IM on day two with an NCAA-B qualifying time and new meet record of 1:48.28.
GWU’s Heather Roka (Fort Myers, FL) took home top honors in the 1,650 free, stopping the clock in 17:03.19. Teammate Taylor Simpson (Boiling Springs, NC) captured the 200 breast title in 2:19.89. Simpson also anchored the 400 free relay team that claimed the gold in a new meet record time of 3:28.33. She was joined on the team by Wilson, Kelly Gueltig (Miamisburg, OH) and Whitney Hooley (Apple Creek, OH).
CCSU’s Lindsey Snyder (Winterport, ME/Bangor) rounded out the final day event winners with her second consecutive gold in the 200 back, touching the wall in 2:02.75. Teammate Jaime Crowley (Plainville, CT/Plainville) met NCAA-B qualifying standards in the 100 free with a time of 50.88, which was good enough for the silver.
