No. 1 seed Long Island University claimed its ninth NEC Softball Tournament title and third in four years with a 4-2 triumph over No. 2 seed Robert Morris University in the championship game of the 2006 NEC Softball Tournament. With the crown, the Blackbirds will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament. LIU freshman pitcher Jenny Giles (Melbourne, FL/Eau Gallie) was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player after posting a 2-0 record with one save, while compiling a 1.12 ERA from the circle.
