Emmitsburg, MD -- Monmouth University won its third-straight Northeast Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday. The event was held at the Morgan Track on the campus of Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md.
Monmouth’s 165.50 points were 35.50 points ahead of second-place St. Francis (Pa.) (129). Robert Morris (123.50), Mount St. Mary’s (99), Long Island (99), Sacred Heart (62), Quinnipiac (41), Fairleigh Dickinson (38), Wagner (33), St. Francis (N.Y.) (17) and Central Connecticut State (12) rounded out the field.
Sacred Heart senior Evan Lasher (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) (pictured) earned the 2006 Most Valuable Performer honors after winning both the shot put and the discus while finishing fourth in the hammer throw. Lasher broke his own conference record with a toss of 53.50m in the discus while also winning the shot put with a mark of 17.21m. He was also named the 2006 Outstanding Field Performer.
Long Island senior Michael Hillian (Voorhees, N.J./East Carolina) earned 2006 Outstanding Track Performer honors after winning both the 200m and 400m dash while anchoring LIU’s first-place 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Hillian won the 200m dash with a time of 21.76s while taking the 400m dash in 46.35s. Hillian earned Outstanding Track Performer honors for the second straight year.
Robert Morris freshman Andrew McCloskey (Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest) earned 2006 Rookie of the Meet honors after finishing second in the 200m dash and fourth in the 100m dash. McCloskey ran the 100m dash in a time of 11.07s while finishing the 200 with a time of 21.93s.
Monmouth’s Fabrice St. Elme (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) won the 100m dash with a time of 10.66s. St. Francis (Pa.) sophomore John Balouris (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) won the 800m (1:52.69) while teammates A.J. Suravicz (Ashley, Pa./Hanover) won the 1500m (3:57.59) and Patrick Quinn (Glen Ellyn, Ill./St. Francis Prep) took the 5000m (14:57.35). Mount St. Mary’s senior Devin Barry (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) won the 110m hurdles (14.59s) for the second straight year while Long Island’s Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) repeated in the 400m hurdles (51.76). Mount St. Mary’s junior Zach Emerson (Hillsboro, N.H./Hillsboro-Deering) won the steeplechase (9:24.39) while teammate Josh Dzyak (Boyds, Md./Georgetown Prep) took first place in the pole vault (4.65m). Wagner’s Peter Czech (Keyport, N.J./Keyport) won the triple jump with a leap of 14.35m and Monmouth’s Bobby Smith (Hopatcong, N.J./Hopatcong) repeated in the javelin (67.20m).
Long Island won both the 4x100m relay (41.60) and the 4x400m relay (3:20.69). Monmouth head coach Joe Compagni was named the NEC Men’s Coach of the Year.
