Somerset, NJ --
Two student-athletes from Quinnipiac, along with one each from Central Connecticut State, Long Island, Mount St. Mary’s, Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA) comprise the 2007 Fall Scholar-Athlete award winners for the Northeast Conference. In addition to the scholar-athletes, the NEC also announced its fall Academic Honor Roll, consisting of 563 student-athletes. All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours, maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

Mount St. Mary’s junior Matthew Logie (Germantown, MD/Northwest) wins his second consecutive NEC Scholar-Athlete award in men’s cross country. Logie earned all-conference honors for the third consecutive year after finishing seventh at the NEC Cross Country Championships in October. He was the first Mount St. Mary’s harrier to cross the tape and led the Mountaineers to a fourth place finish at the event with a time of 26:42.5. Earlier in the year, he delivered strong showings at the Ted Owen Invitational (11th) and Tribe Open (13th). Logie, the 2005 NEC Freshman of the Year in cross country, is a native of Germantown, MD. He maintains a 3.68 grade point average majoring in History.

Quinnipiac sophomore Kristen Stevens (Roxbury, NJ/Succasunna) is the NEC Scholar-Athlete in women’s cross country. Stevens was named the Most Outstanding Performer for the second year in a row after capturing her second straight individual crown at the NEC championship meet in October. She navigated the course in 17:37.7 to finish nearly 20 seconds ahead of teammate Chelsea Bollerman as Quinnipiac claimed its third consecutive NEC crown in dominating fashion. Stevens, a four-time NEC Athlete of the Week, placed in the top-10 in each of her meets this season, including a third place finish at the New England Championships, also won by the Bobcats. The 2006-07 Quinnipiac Student-Athlete of the Year culminated her season with a 44th place finish at the NCAA Regional Championships in November with a time of 21:51.75. Stevens, who hails from Succasunna, NJ, is a Physical Therapy major who maintains a 3.69 grade point average.

Quinnipiac graduate student Megan Dahle (Farmington, CT/Farmington) is this year’s NEC Scholar-Athlete award winner in field hockey. Dahle, a defender, was tabbed to the 2007 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Mideast second team following her selection to the all-NEC first team. She sparked a late season run that saw Quinnipiac win four of its last five matches - the Bobcats yielded a combined three goals in those outings - and fall just short of qualifying for an NEC playoff berth. Dahle also provided some offensive punch, scoring the game-winning goals in victories over Columbia and Robert Morris earlier in the year. She finished the year with two goals, two assists and six points. Dahle, a Farmington, CT product, has compiled a perfect 4.0 grade point average as an Interactive Communications major.

Central Connecticut State senior center Ryne Nutt (Warren, OH/Howland) collects NEC scholar-athlete accolades in football. The honors have rolled in for the Warren, OH native following a season that saw the Blue Devils finish second in the NEC with a 4-2 league mark. Nutt, who served as team captain, recently became just the second CCSU student-athlete to be honored as a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. He was chosen to the second team in both 2006 and 2007 after anchoring an offensive line that opened holes for a running game that finished in the top-10 nationally each season. Nutt was also one of two NEC players named an ECAC FCS All-Star and was honored earlier this month with the prestigious Nils V. "Swede" Nelson Award by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. The award is given for exceptional achievement in academics, athletics and sportsmanship. A three-time all-NEC selection - including first team plaudits in each of the last two years - Nutt is part of the winningest class in CCSU football history. His four-year record as a player stands at 29-14, the most wins in a four-year span in CCSU football history. Nutt is an Accounting major who sports a 3.98 grade point average.

Saint Francis (PA) senior defender Bryce Luetzen (Denver, CO/Denver Lutheran) is the NEC Scholar-Athlete recipient in men’s soccer. In November, Luetzen became the first men’s soccer player in school history to earn distinction as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, earning second team honors. A four-year starter and two-year captain, the Denver, CO native was the leader on a stingy defense that recorded a school record eight shutouts in 2007. The Red Flash yielded just seven goals and posted a league-best four shutouts in nine league games en-route to a second straight NEC title match appearance. The second team all-NEC pick also contributed on the offensive end with three assists. Luetzen, who is a Saint Francis and NEC Academic Honor Roll student, is a VITA Volunteer for the Dorothy Day Center, where he prepares tax returns for low income families. He helps coach local youth soccer teams, is a four-year volunteer with the Pennsylvania Special Olympics, participates in Relay for Life and is a member of Outreach to local elementary school children. Luetzen is also a member of Sigma Beta Delta, a Business Honors Society. An Accounting major, Luetzen maintains a 3.73 grade point average.

Robert Morris senior defender Taryn Reichard (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) claims NEC Scholar-Athlete honors in women’s soccer. Reichard, a second team all-NEC selection, was a key performer on a Colonial team that won the most matches (seven) since 2000 and finished .500 in league play (4-4-1) for the first time since the NEC began sponsoring soccer in 1995. Robert Morris permitted just nine goals in nine conference matches and posted seven shutouts on the year. At the conclusion of the season, the Colonial co-captain was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II first team for the second straight year. In four seasons, Reichard appeared in 74 of a possible 76 matches, tops in school history. The Harrisburg, PA product, who has pre-med ambitions upon completion of her undergraduate work, has posted a 3.91 grade point average majoring in Environmental Science.

Long Island senior outside hitter Martina Wagner (Friedrichshafen, Germany/Wilhelmi Gymnasium (U. of Georgia)) takes home NEC Scholar-Athlete accolades in women’s volleyball. Wagner, the 2006 NEC Player of the Year, is a three-time first team all-star who helped lead the Blackbirds to three straight league championships and a 24-0 NEC record over that span. She ranked first on the circuit with 0.86 services aces per game and 5.26 points per game this past season, and also finished second in kills (4.08 per game) and seventh in digs (3.13 per game). For the second consecutive year, her service ace totals placed her second nationally in the category. Wagner was recognized for her on and off the court accomplishments with a second straight selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team in November. A native of Friedrichshafen, Germany, Wagner is a Marketing major who carries a 3.60 grade point average.
