LIU Soccer Teams to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness During Doubleheader
10/4/2011
Brooklyn, NY -- The Long Island University women's and men's soccer teams will do their part to raise breast cancer awareness during a doubleheader at LIU Field on Friday, Oct. 7. The Blackbirds will don pink warmup shirts with ribbons on the sleeves as a way to promote the cause prior to the game. During the game, the shirts will be sold as well as tossed into the crowd after each Long Island goal.
Proceeds from the fundraising will go to the Avon Foundation for Women's Breast Cancer Crusade. Avon is holding its annual Walk for Breast Cancer in New York City on Oct. 15-16. The Blackbirds will donate the proceeds from the doubleheader to the Avon Foundation for Women in the name of Gerald Goldstein, a former Long Island men's soccer player and cancer survivor that routinely participates in the Walk for Breast Cancer.
The doubleheader will begin at 4:00 p.m., when the men's team hosts Sacred Heart. The women's team will take on Bryant at 6:30 p.m. For more information on the Avon Foundation for Women, click here.
