Emmitsburg, MD -- Mount St. Mary’s senior Gigi Gibilisco has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. The senior was a music major and maintained a 3.75 grade point average.
Gibilisco had a terrific ending to the 2011 Outdoor season, winning the 800-meter run at the Northeast Conference Championships, earning All-East honors at the IC4A Championships,and participating in the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Gibilisco opened the exciting month by winning the 800m run with a time of 1:51.86, to earn First Team All-NEC honors. A week later, he finished seventh in the 800m run at the IC4A Championships to earn All-East honors and to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a time of 1:50.29.
At the NCAA East Preliminary Round, the senior finished fifth in his heat and 29th overall with a time of 1:51.75.
Gibilisco was named the NEC Men’s Outdoor Track And Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year on July 7.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
