Northeast Conference Football Release (9/12)
9/12/2011
The lone Northeast Conference game on the Week 1 slate went to Wagner. Two of the men responsible for the Seahawks' 38-28 NEC win over Saint Francis (PA) are honored in the season-opening installment of the conference's weekly football awards program. In his first game action in nearly two years, Wagner junior RB Dominique Williams carred 26 times for 180 yards and two scores on his way to the NEC Offensive Player of the Week award. Meanwhile, his classmate CO Prime made seven tackles and his first career interception to claim the NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor. UAlbany placekicker Herb Glass reached a pair of milestones at Colgate and kicked, from 41 yards out, what looked to be the game-winning field goal in overtime until Raiders' renown TB Nate Eachus answered with a touchdown. Glass, who tied Jason Fralicker for the program's all-time lead in field goals and also became the highest-scoring placekicker in Danes' history, took the NEC Special Teams Player of the Week accolade. Central Connecticut State downed Southern Connecticut to extend its home win streak to 15 games, and NEC Rookie of the Week Tyrell Holmes was a key part of the triumphant effort. The true freshman made seven tackles and picked off a pass.
