Mount's Conlon, Jost & Salerno Named To IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

9/13/2011

Emmitsburg, MD -- Meaghan Conlon (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), Aly Jost (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) and Alexis Salerno (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville), members of the 2011 Mount St. Mary’s women’s lacrosse team, have been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll, announced on Monday.

Conlon, who is in her senior season at the Mount and biology major, boasted a 3.79 grade-point average in her first three years at the Mount. Conlon posted nine goals and four assists for 13 points along with 21 ground balls, 20 draw controls and nine caused turnovers last season. The senior joined the Mount women’s soccer team in 2011 and made her collegiate debut against Towson on Sunday.

Jost graduated in May with a 3.94 grade-point average with a concentration in criminal justice and sociology. It marks the third academic honor for Jost in 2011 after also being named the Northeast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete Of the Year and a spot on the Capital One At-Large Academic All-District first team. Jost capped off a terrific year and became the first player in league history to claim two NEC Defensive Player of the Year awards and just the second in conference annals to collect All-NEC first team accolades in each of her four seasons. This past spring she led the Mount with 46 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers, while ranking second with 49 draw controls. Jost’s strong play helped land Mount St. Mary’s a berth in the NEC title game for the first time since the 2007 season and earned her a spot on the NEC All-Tournament time for the second time in her career. Jost ranks sixth in program history in caused turnovers (83), seventh in ground balls (171) and 10th in draw controls (83). Jost, an Abington, Md., product, is a four-time member of the NEC Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Salerno also graduated in May with a 3.57 grade-point average and a concentration in biochemistry. Salerno ranked fourth on the squad with 13 goals and six assists for 19 points and added 17 ground balls, 14 draw controls and nine caused turnovers in her final season at the Mount.

Mount St. Mary’s finished 8-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play under first-year head coach B.J. Lucey. The Mount made the NEC Tournament for the ninth-consecutive season and the 13th in 14-year history of the league. Mount St. Mary’s advanced to its fifth NEC Tournament Championship Game in 2011.
