Geoghan & Hill Lead Monmouth To IWLCA Honors

9/14/2011

West Long Branch, NJ -- Monmouth University’s women’s lacrosse team was recently honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) for its academic achievements, with two players earning individual recognition.

Graduated seniors Allison Geoghan (Highland, Md./River Hill) and Renae Hill (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) were named to the individual Academic Honor Roll for the second year in a row.

"I am always proud of our academic accomplishments. I know the team works very hard in the classroom to achieve strong grades," said head coach Denise Wescott. "We encourage them to get internships and work with their professors on projects. I think giving them opportunities to do the extra things in the classroom helps them be successful academically and sets high standards on the lacrosse field too."

The 2011 squad earned a 3.31 team grade point average up from their 2010 GPA of 3.21. To be eligible for the academic honor, teams must have a combined 3.0 GPA which was achieved by 56 teams, including the Hawks.

Among the 187 student-athletes are 33 who were members of teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament, including two from national semifinalist Northwestern.
