Somerset, NJ -- The Northeast Conference (NEC) announced today that it has partnered with the
Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign, part of the
National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, to help promote fundraising efforts to complete the Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, PA.
The NEC will make available commercial inventory during its extensive regional football and basketball television packages this season to help promote fundraising efforts for the Flight 93 National Memorial. In addition, the NEC will provide the memorial’s website (
www.honorflight93.org) with prominent exposure on the league’s official website and through its social media sites on Facebook and Twitter. Other promotional considerations will be added over the course of the year.
“The NEC is proud to support the fundraising efforts for the Flight 93 National Memorial,” said Commissioner Noreen Morris. “The NEC looks forward to helping promote these efforts and hopefully playing a small part in allowing the memorial to reach its fundraising goals.”
“The story of Flight 93 and the tragic events of September 11, 2001 must never be forgotten,” said Neil Mulholland, President and CEO of the National Park Foundation. “We are grateful to the Northeast Conference for their enthusiastic support in building awareness of the funds needed to finalize the Flight 93 National Memorial.”
The National Park Foundation’s Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign is working to raise the final $5 million in private funding needed to complete the Memorial. These funds will complete the Memorial’s original design features including a Learning Center that will more fully tell the story of Flight 93 and a ‘Tower of Voices’ with forty wind chimes to be located at the entrance to the Memorial. Currently, the Memorial is approximately 50% complete.
About the Flight 93 National Memorial
On September 24, 2002, President Bush signed into law the Flight 93 National Memorial Act. The Act created a new national park to commemorate the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who, on September 11, 2001, courageously gave their lives thereby thwarting a planned attack on our nation’s capital. The memorial is near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Flight 93 crashed with the loss of its 40 passengers and crew.
