Emmitsburg, MD - Monmouth quelled LIU Brooklyn’s comeback bid and held on for its fourth consecutive team title at the NEC Outdoor Women’s Track & Field Championships.  The Hawks tallied 159.25 points to the Blackbirds’ 146 and finished atop the team standings for the fifth time in the last eight years.

None of the four post-meet individual awards went to Monmouth, but there is no discounting the impact that Amanda Eller had on the final team outcome.

Eller’s mid-distance double yielded a pair of gold medals and 20 team points for the Hawks.  She won the 1500m run and 800m run, posting a meet record in the former (4:27.91).

Eller’s conquest of the 1500m was one of five-meet record-breaking performances that unfolded over the two-day meet.

LIU Brooklyn senior Jazmin Waller was responsible for one of those meet records while piling up 41 points for her team.  The veteran Blackbird won the 200m dash on Sunday after setting the NEC outdoor record in Saturday’s preliminary round (24.14).

Waller also struck gold in the long jump and posted runner-up finishes in the 100m dash and 100m hurdles.  As if that weren’t enough, Waller also scored a fourth-place finish in the high jump while meeting the ECAC Championship qualifying standard in the event.

After scoring in five events and setting a meet record on the track, Waller took home both the NEC Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer award and the Most Valuable Performer honor.

The NEC Outdoor Most Outstanding Field Performer accolade went to Saint Francis (PA) senior Christin Bridge who won the shot put and scored in both the hammer and discus.

Central Connecticut freshman Ronea Saunders took down the meet record in the high jump and claimed the NEC Most Outstanding Rookie Performer award as a result.  Saunders matched her seasonal best and out-jumped top-seeded Rachel Watkins by clearing 1.75m.

The day began in record-breaking fashion as Quinnipiac’s Morgan Roche completed the 3,000m steeple chase in 10:58.29 to surpass the mark produced by Central’s Katherine Bossardet last May.

LIU Brooklyn senior Jessie Gaines, a two-time NEC Outdoor MVP, added the 100m hurdles record to her resume when she clocked in at 13.77.
