New York, NY - St. Francis College men's basketball standout Akeem Johnson took time out from his summer vacation to read for the children of the Harlem RBI Program at the Dream Charter School on Thursday morning.  Johnson read a couple of chapters from a book about the early days of the Olympics and then helped the kids write recaps about what they had just heard.

“I had a great time and I'm glad that I got introduced to this program,” Johnson said.  “Hopefully my teammates and other St. Francis student-athletes will have the opportunity to get involved in the future.”

The mission of the RBI Program is to provide inner-city youth with opportunities to Play, Learn and Grow. They use the power of teams to coach, teach and inspire youth to recognize their potential and realize their dreams.
Their vision is to be a model learning community where youth become healthy, educated and active global citizens who achieve excellence and change the world.

The core values are: Teamwork, Respect, Diversity, Promise, Effort, Integrity and, of course, Fun!
When Harlem RBI youth graduate from the program, they are expected to embody the attributes of their DreamList:
Physically Healthy
Confident, Competent and Caring
Active Citizens
Work-Ready
High School Graduates
College graduates
Teammates, Friends and Family
