In the words of Ol’ Blue Eyes, “It was a very good year…”
Nearly a half-century after Frank Sinatra won a Grammy Award for his rendition of the Ervin Drake-composed tune, the Northeast Conference enjoyed what the Chairman of the Board would likely consider to be “a very good year.”
The 2011-12 academic year yielded four NTCA All-American selections for NEC bowlers, three Capital One Academic All-Americans, national rankings in women's bowling, football, men’s lacrosse and men’s soccer, and one of the greatest men’s and women's basketball seasons in conference history. In the classroom, NEC student-athletes combined for a record-high 3.16 grade point average and 40 teams were honored with NCAA Public Recognition Awards for academic excellence.
And that is only a fraction of what Northeast Conference student-athletes and coaches accomplished during their nine months on campus.
In what has become an annual tradition, the Conference office has recorded all of the achievements and laid them out for all to see in the 2011-12 edition of the “Northeast Conference Year-In-Review.”
In addition to sport-by-sport recaps, the review includes a rundown of the NEC's academic and athletic highlights from the past year, including a listing of the league's All-Americans and Academic All-American/All-District performers and NEC Scholar-Athletes. Conference initiatives in the areas of sportsmanship, community service, marketing, new media and television are also placed in the spotlight in the 20-page booklet.
