Loretto, PA -- First-year head men's golf coach Derek Tyson recently announced the hiring of Reid Griffith as his new assistant coach.

“Reid is a very good amateur player who brings with him a strong record in golf,” Tyson said. “He is a great fit for the position and I look forward to getting the season underway with Reid and the rest of the team and start working towards a successful year.”

Griffith, who hails from nearby Johnstown, Pa., comes to Loretto after a two-year collegiate playing career at Duquesne University. Unfortunately Griffith's playing career was shortened following his sophomore year due to Duquesne's cutting of the men's golf program. In his final season, Griffith was one of the Dukes most consistent golfers.

In addition to his play at Duquesne, Griffith has picked up a wealth of golf knowledge over the years outside of collegiate athletics. Back in 2008, Griffith attended the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, held in Bradenton, Fla. For the past six years Griffith has worked as a professional caddy, caddying in several major amateur events, PGA Tour qualifying school and U.S. Open qualifying rounds.

In the spring of 2012 Griffith earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Duquesne.
