Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis Director of Athletics Susan Robinson-Fruchtl is excited to announce
Frank Olszewski as the eighth head coach in the history of the men's soccer program.
Olszewski is a veteran in the coaching ranks with 24 years of head coaching experience. He spent the majority of his career (1982-2013) as the head coach at Towson University, where he compiled 283 career wins, which ranks 24th all-time in the NCAA Division I coaching ranks.
"We are excited that
Frank Olszewski will join our Red Flash family as our next head men's soccer coach," said Robinson-Fruchtl. "Frank brings so much experience and success to our program which has been on the edge of winning an NEC Championship for several years. We believe that Frank will continue to build upon the success our program has experienced. I was impressed by Frank's team player attitude and the humble spirit he displayed throughout the search process. We look forward to having a veteran coach like Frank join our athletic department."
As coach of the Towson Tigers, Olszewski was a four-time League Coach of the Year and the Regional Coach of the Year in 2006, leading his team to seven conference championships. The Tigers advanced past the NCAA Tournament First Round in two of the seven appearances, making the Second Round in 2001 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2006. Towson appeared in the NCAA Division I National Rankings in nine different seasons.
His ability to develop athletes is unparalleled as he coached 12 All-Americans, five Academic All-Americans, 45 All-Region players, 85 All-Conference Players, 15 National Team players and seven Conference Players of the Year in his 22 seasons at Towson. Additionally, 51 of his former student-athletes went on to play as domestic professionals and 10 went on to be international professionals.
Academically, the Tigers earned the NSCAA Division I Team Academic Achievement Award 11 times.
"I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next men's soccer coach at Saint Francis University. I would like to express my gratitude to the President, Father Malachi Van Tassell, and Susan Robinson-Fruchtl for their confidence in me to lead the program in a forward direction," said Olszewski. "I would also like to thank
Shane Tay and the entire search committee for showing me how welcoming the campus community is. I can't wait to get started with the team because the student-athletes are what this is all about. I am also looking forward to connecting with the fantastic alumni and supporters of the program that I have heard so much about."
After Towson disbanded its program at the conclusion of the 2013 season, Olszewski joined Davis & Elkins College as its head coach for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In his two years, he turned the program into a Division II powerhouse, compiling a 24-7-7 (.724%) overall record. He was named the 2016 G-MAC Coach of the Year and led the Senators to the NCAA Tournament in 2017, where they were eliminated in penalty kicks in the second round.
Olszewski's recruiting connections run deep as he has served as a Development Academy Scout for the U.S. Youth National Teams since 2007.
Other recent roles include a Professional Match Evaluator for Major League Soccer from 2011-2014 and the Director of Coaching and Academy Director for Baltimore Bays Chelsea from 2013-14.
Olszewski also has experience as a coach and director with the Maryland Olympic Developmental Program (ODP) and the Region I USYSA ODP program.
He served as an NCAA Tournament Committee and Regional Chair from 1998-2002.
Antony Moore, who directed the Red Flash to a 10-win season in 2017 while serving as interim head coach, will remain on staff as an assistant.
