Somerset, NJ --With today's seeding announcement, the brackets have been finalized for the 2019 Northeast Conference (NEC) Tennis Championships, which commence on Thursday, April 18 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ. The tournament will be contested over three days in a single elimination format.
Bryant locked up the top seed for the seventh straight year following a fourth consecutive perfect NEC regular season. The tourney favorites will now look to make it six straight NEC titles under six-time reigning NEC Coach of the Year Ron Gendron. In building their 5-0 conference mark, the Bulldogs won 28-of-30 singles matches against NEC rivals. Bryant also challenged itself outside the league, picking up victories over Xavier, George Washington, Navy and Army, among others. A sixth straight conference championship would tie Bryant with Monmouth (1990-95) for the most consecutive NEC titles in conference history. Bryant and Wagner - last year's runner-up and this year's second seed - both earned byes into the semifinals.

On the women's side, LIU Brooklyn has its sights set on a third straight NEC crown after securing the #1 seed for the third straight year. The Blackbirds captured the program's fourth NEC championship in 2018, and enter this year's tournament under the leadership of first-year head coach Jan Griga. Behind the play of two-time reigning NEC Player of the Year Anna Grigoryan, LIU recorded its third consecutive undefeated regular season against league rivals, finishing a perfect 5-0 in NEC play. The Blackbirds also collected a number of notable non-conference wins over the likes of Villanova, Fordham, Quinnipiac and Hofstra. A pair of perennial contenders will look to upend LIU with Fairleigh Dickinson seeded second and Bryant claiming the third seed.

Tournament play begins on Thursday with quarterfinal round action. The semifinals are slated for Friday followed by the men's and women's title matches on Championship Saturday.
