STATEN ISLAND, NY - Former Wagner College pitcher Mike McTamney (Toms River, NJ / Toms River North) was named by /Baseball America/ to the 2006 Independent Leagues Top Prospects List.

One of eight players, including just four pitchers, to make the list McTamney, a 2005 Wagner grad, was recognized by nation's premier baseball publication as having the best fastball in the Golden Baseball League, touching 94 mph. Pitching for the Reno Silver Sox after a mid-season trade from the Fullerton Flyers the right handed fireballer saw action in 18 games going 2-0 with 17 strikeouts against just four walks and a miniscule 1.47 ERA in 30.2 innings of work. In addition, he held hitters to a paltry .196 batting average and picked up a save in game two of the GBL Championship over the Flyers.

"In a year where we have seen seven Reno Silver Sox players signed by major league organizations, I predict that Mike will be the next one to go," said Silver Sox manager and former major league pitcher Les Lancaster. "I'd be shocked if he wasn't acquired and in spring training in a big league system for the 2007 season. He deserves the recognition and has a great baseball future ahead of him."

As a rookie in 2005 he went 2-4 with a 2.63 ERA while striking out 51 and walking only 19 in 62.0 innings for Fullerton.
