  Mount Hurler Dustin Pease Signs With Kansas City Royals

Emmitsburg, MD --  Dustin Pease, a 2007 graduate of Mount St. Mary's University, has signed with the Kansas City Royals.  Pease, who played for the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League last year after helping lead the Mount to its first-ever Northeast Conference regular season title in the spring.

Pease, 22, joined the Goldeyes on June 15 following his senior year at the Mount. He went 1-2 with a 3.26 earned run average in 29 relief appearances, fanning 21 in 30-plus innings while holding opponents to a team-low .217 average. 

Pease finished his career at the Mount as the school's all-time leader in wins (31), appearances (86), strikeouts (304) and innings pitched (347.0).  In addition, he second all-time at the Mount in opponents batting average (.275) and third in earned run average (4.05). 

The left-hander went 8-5 with a 5.15 ERA in 22 appearances and 99.2 innings of work last season, helping lead the Mount to a 35-22 record and a share of the Northeast Conference regular season title.  Pease struck out 82 batters on the year, walking just 18.

Pease finished his career 31-17 at the Mount in 86 appearances (44 starts).  He struck out 304 batters with 57 walks in 347 innings of work and collected five saves.  He was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2006 and earned First Team All-NEC honors at pitcher in both 2004 and 2006.  He was the NEC Rookie of the Year in 2004, earning Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors that year as well.
