NEC Football Release (10/16) 10/16/2006
Stony Brook junior quarterback Josh Dudash, this week's NEC Offensive Player of the Week, was near perfect on Saturday in a win at Saint Francis (PA), completing 22-of-27 passes for 314 yards and two touchdown and leading the Seawolves to a 3-0 in the NEC for the first time since joining the league in 1999. Robert Morris matched Stony Brook, moving to 3-0 in the NEC with an overtime victory over Central Connecticut State. Colonial linebacker Jeff Rommes is the NEC Defensive Player of the Week winner after posting 18 tackles, three tackles-for-a loss, a fumble recovery, a pass breakup and an interception in the team's first win against a nationally-ranked opponent. Monmouth punter Sean Dennis controlled field position for the 6-1 Hawks and takes home NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for consecutive weeks. Dennis punted seven times for 288 yards for an average of 41.1 yards and drilled a 62-yarder that was downed on the Seahawks’ one-yard line. Three of Dennis' seven punts were downed inside the 20 yardline. Dudash's teammate Cory Giddings had another big game for the Seawolves and earns NEC Rookie of the Week honors for back-to-back weeks. In the second quarter, the freshman recovered a blocked point-after-attempt and carried the ball 85 yards for a two-point defensive conversion. In the third quarter, Giddings, who also collected eight tackles on the afternoon, intercepted a Saint Francis (PA) pass in the endzone, which halted a possible go-ahead score for the Red Flash.
