Brooklyn, NY -- Botond Szalma, the 6’8” junior on the St. Francis College Men’s Water Polo team was named North Conference Player of the Year by the College Water Polo Association (CWPA). Botond anchored the Terriers attack this year, helping lead them to a 22-5 record and the ECAC and Northern Conference Championships.

Freshman Filip Kisdobranski was named Rookie of the Year for the entire CWPA. He made an immediate impact on the team, moving up the scoring charts to the top-40 in the country.

St. Francis Players dominated the All-North First Team, with three of the six players; Szalma, senior Bogdan Petrovic and senior goalie Dusko Radanovac. Sophomore Nemanja Pucarevic was named to the All-North Second Team. Pucarevic broke the top 15 in goal scoring nationwide this year.

Other accolades for Terrier players go to Petrovic and Szalma who were both named to the Eastern Championship All Tournament First Team. Petrovic had 11 goals in the three games, Szalma added 6 as the Terriers claimed third place with wins over Johns Hopkins and Bucknell before a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Princeton.

“We played a very intense, close game against Princeton,” said Coach Michael Klochkov. “While the final result wasn’t what we wanted, we can take pride in the outstanding efforts of all our players. Bogdan Petrovic and Dusko Radovanac performed particularly well.”

While six players will be graduating this year, St. Francis expects a solid core of players to return, including Szalma and Kisdobranski, keeping the Terriers atop the Northern Conference. “This season was definitely one to remember, but we are very excited to begin preparing for 2007,” Coach Klochkov noted.
