Sacred Heart Slated As 2010 NEC Men's Golf Preseason Favorite

SHU's Leo Garcia 2009 Rookie of the Year   Sacred Heart was selected as the 2010 NEC men's golf preseason favorite, according to a poll of the league's head coaches. The two-time defending champion Pioneers garnered eight first-place votes, while Central Connecticut State came in second with two first-place nods. Robert Morris was picked third, followed by Monmouth in fourth. Taking the fifth spot was Long Island as Saint Francis (PA) and Fairleigh Dickinson claimed sixth and seventh, respectively. The eighth-place slot is filled by Mount St. Mary's, while Wagner and St. Francis (NY) round out the 10-team field.

Game highlights from Wagner’s exciting 74-73 win over Sacred Heart in an NEC televised game at the Spiro Sports Center in Staten Island on Saturday, January 30, 2010 are now available on the NEC's YouTube page. Highlights include each of Sacred Heart senior guard Corey Hassan's school record 10 three-pointers, followed by a montage of Wagner trifectas from sophomore guard Chris Martin and freshman guard Danny Mundweiler.  Clips follow from the final moments of the contest, culminating with Martin’s floater with six seconds to play, which proved to be the game-winner. Martin, the NEC Player of the Game, is also interviewed post-game by Paul Dottino.
