Monmouth's Valerie Carney And Bobby Smith Register Impressive Javelin Marks At U.S. National Championships

Monmouth University had three freshmen and two former All-Americans compete at the 2009 United States Junior National and National Championships hosted on the campus of the University of Oregon.  Valerie Carney (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) placed 9th in the women’s javelin, throwing 133’ 4”, missing the finals by three inches and a guaranteed junior All-American spot, while former Hawk All-American Bobby Smith placed 8th in the javelin with his throw of 235 1 Ό”, making the finals. Freshman Stevenson Cajuste (Egg Harbor, N.J./Egg Harbor) ran a time of 54.28 in the 400 hurdles, claiming 14 th overall, while classmates Symmone Fisher (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) finished 21st in the women’s hammer with a mark of 144’ 5 Ό” and Lindsey Walsh (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) earned 2,543 for 16th place after day 1 (and three events) of the heptathlon.  Former Hawk All-American Jon Kalnas took 12th in the shot put, throwing the implement 51' 1/4".

Monmouth Track & Field Has Big Presence Heading to National Meets This Week
 
Monmouth University will have four freshmen, as well as two former All-Americans, competing at the U.S. Championships and the U.S. Junior National Championships from June 25-28 at historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The four freshmen competing for Monmouth are Stevenson Cajuste, Symmone Fisher, Valerie Carney and Lindsey Walsh, while the two former Hawks are Jon Kalnas and Bobby Smith.  Live results and updates from the Championships can be found at www.usatf.org
