Sacred Heart's No. 1 Kirill Kasyanov
Defending Northeast Conference (NEC) champion Sacred Heart topped the league's annual men's tennis preseason poll, the results of which were released on Thursday as the spring schedule begins to unfold. The Pioneers garnered five first-place votes in the survey of the conference's nine head coaches to earn the moniker of preseason favorite for the first time in program history. Three-time NEC Tournament champion Quinnipiac, which comprises the other half of the Merritt Parkway rivalry, garnered three first-place nods to finish second. Fairleigh Dickinson claimed the lone remaining top nod to take third place in the poll, one spot in front of Garden State rival Monmouth. Mount St. Mary's finished fifth in the voting followed by Robert Morris in sixth and Saint Francis (PA) in seventh. New York City based institutions St. Francis (NY) and Wagner round out the poll results in eight and ninth, respectively.
Quinnipiac Men's Tennis Lands Four-Star New York Native
Quinnipiacs head tennis coach Michael Quitko has announced the signing of Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, NY) to a National Letter of Intent. Rated a four-star talent by TennisRecruiting.net, Morgenstern has been ranked as highly as No. 149 nationally by the website. Corey comes to us out of a true tennis household with extensive knowledge of the game, said Quitko. I expect Corey to be able to break the starting line-up as a freshman and improve our team so that we can do battle in the NEC.
