| NEC Women's Cross Country Squads Compete at NCAA Regional Championships |
Representing the Northeast Conference (NEC) at the 2009 NCAA Women's Cross Country Northeast Regional Championships on Nov. 14 were Central Connecticut State, Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart. Syracuse won the 35-team event, totaling 59 points on the 6K Franklin Park course in Boston, MA. Competing at the 27-team NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at the University of Maryland - Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD were Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA). Taking home the hardware was Villanova with 23 points.

Behind five all-Conference performances, Quinnipiac won the 2009 NEC Women’s Cross Country Championship for the unprecendented fifth consecutive year. Sacred Heart junior Kimberly DeLoreto (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Hills) turned in the lone sub-18 minute time to take first-place in 17:58.1, earning NEC Outstanding Performer merit by just over 16 seconds. A sprint over the final 400-yards gave Mount St. Mary’s rookie Megan Kinsella (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) a second-place finish and a time of 18:14.9 en route to NEC Freshman of the Year distinction. Quinnipiac totaled 33 points to take home the hardware, while Sacred Heart was the runner-up with a team score of 71. Monmouth accumulated 98 points, good for third place as Saint Francis (PA) (127) and Mount St. Mary’s (163) rounded out the top-five. With 168 points, Central Connecticut State sat in the sixth slot, followed by Robert Morris (176) and Bryant (203) in seventh and eighth, respectively. Long Island’s 219-point effort was good for ninth, while Fairleigh Dickinson (281), St. Francis (NY) (296) and Wagner (308) completed the 12-team field.
