Baltimore, MD -- Led by Most Valuable Athlete Taryn Phelps, who captured the 800 meters and 1,500 meters on Sunday, Monmouth won its second consecutive Northeast Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
The Hawks totaled 151 points for the meet, beating out 2001 NEC Indoor Champion Central Connecticut State, which finished with 130.50. St. Francis (PA) placed third with 119 points.
Phelps, a junior from Skaneateles, NY, set a meet record in winning the
800 meters (2:12.74), and also won the 1,500 meters in 4:44.96. UMBC's Cleopatra Borel earned the meet's Outstanding Field Performer by winning the shot put (52'11", NCAA Automatic Qualifier) and the hammer throw (168'3") on Saturday.
Monmouth's Joe Compagni was named NEC Coach of the Year.
