Wagner came up with one of its biggest victories in recent memory by knocking off Mount St. Mary’s, 8-7, in Staten Island on Saturday. The victory - clinched on Leann Matta’s (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) goal with just eight seconds to play - snapped the Mount’s 17-game winning streak in regular season conference play dating back to a 13-10 setback to Monmouth on April 6, 2003. The triumph also put Wagner in control of its own destiny as the Seahawks attempt to snare one of the four NEC Tournament berths this week when they host Central Connecticut State and Long Island...The NEC Tournament will commence on April 29 at the home of the highest seed. Monmouth and Quinnipiac have already clinched spots in the event...First place Monmouth has won 10 straight matches, the longest streak in school history...In the battle for the NEC regular season crown and top seed in the tourney, two big matches highlight this week’s slate as Monmouth (6-0) hosts Quinnipiac (6-1) on Friday, then travels to Mount St. Mary’s (5-1) on Sunday in a rematch of the 2004 NEC title game.

Team-By-Team Notes

Central Connecticut State (4-10, 2-5 NEC)
The Blue Devils captured two out of three matches last week, including their first two league wins of the season by sweeping Western Pennsylvania rivals St. Francis (PA), 11-6, and Robert Morris, 14-3. CCSU also dropped a 15-4 decision to visiting LeMoyne in non-league action...Freshman attacker Abbey Capobianco (Framingham, MA/Framingham) tallied 10 goals in the two NEC matches, including a career-high seven in the win over Robert Morris. The seven goals were one shy of a school record. Capobianco, who has now had back-to-back 10 goal weeks, leads the Blue Devils with 38 goals and 41 points. She is fourth in the conference with 2.71 gpg...Sophomore attacker Abby Hayes (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) scored five times against the Red Flash and added two more goals vs. Robert Morris to boost her season total to 21, second on the squad...The Blue Devils play their home finale on Wednesday against Siena, then close out the season at Wagner on Friday.

Long Island (4-7, 3-3 NEC)
The Blackbirds dropped their home finale, 12-7, to Monmouth on Friday at the Parade Grounds in Brooklyn. Junior Chrissie Carleton (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), sophomore Amy Rizzo (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) and junior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, NY) each scored two goals, but it was not enough as LIU could not overcome an early five-goal deficit...Senior Patricia Parker (Long Branch, NJ/Brookdale) was brilliant in her last home game as a Blackbird, making 11 saves. It is the seventh time this season she has registered double digit saves...Shooting for a playoff berth, Long Island plays at Stony Brook on Tuesday, and remains on the road for conference tilts at Mount St. Mary’s on Friday and Wagner on Sunday.

Monmouth (11-3, 6-0 NEC)
The Hawks extended their win streak to 10 games last week with convincing wins over Villanova (20-5), Long Island (12-7) and Sacred Heart (15-5)...With a perfect 6-0 mark in league play, the first place Hawks can wrap up the NEC regular season title and the top seed in the conference tournament with wins over second place Quinnipiac on Friday and third place Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday...Monmouth has already clinched an NEC Tournament berth...The 10-game win streak is the longest in school history, two better than the eight straight victories in 2000...Monmouth’s current eight-game home win streak is one shy of the school mark established between 1999 and 2000...Jeanette Stott (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby) scored her league-leading 60th point of the season in the win over Sacred Heart on Sunday. She is the fourth Monmouth player to reach that plateau and now ranks fifth on the single-season school chart. Her 26 assists - also an NEC-high - places her fifth all-time at Monmouth...Sophomore attacker Carolyn Raveia’s (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) NEC-best 41 goals leaves her ninth on the MU single-season list...Freshman attacker Megan Nutter (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) finished the week with 12 points on six goals and six assists in 12 games. Named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season, she currently ranks fourth on the Hawks in both goals (25) and points (34)...Sophomore midfielder Katie Degen (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) racked up 14 points, 12 draw controls, nine ground balls and nine caused turnovers in a terrific all-around week. The NEC Playerof the Week ranks in the NEC top-10 in eight individual categories.

Mount St. Mary’s (9-5, 5-1 NEC)
Mount St. Mary’s had its 17-game win streak vs. NEC opponents snapped at Wagner on Saturday, dropping the match on a late goal, 8-7. The Mount also defeated Howard, 14-9, in non-league play...Senior Nicole Di’Angelo (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s) recorded three goals and four assists against the Bison to tie a career-high in points. She then added a goal against the Seahawks. With her four helpers, Di'Angelo tied Jen Stocker (1996-99) for the program's all-time career assists mark with 55. The senior also moved into fourth place on the program's points list with 139...Sophomore Casey Paris (Longwood, FL/Lake Brantley) posted two hat tricks on the week...Paris and senior Erin LaMotte (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) have recorded points in 16 straight matches...The Mount, who needs one win to clinch its second-straight NEC tournament berth and sixth overall, wraps up the regular season at home against Long Island on Friday and against Monmouth on Sunday in a rematch of last year’s NEC championship game.

Quinnipiac (8-6, 6-1 NEC)
Quinnipiac has now won four straight and is just one-half game out of first place following road wins at Binghamton (12-8), Robert Morris (15-0) and St. Francis (PA) (14-3) last week...The Bobcats, who clinched an NEC Tournament berth last week, have also won eight out of nine following an 0-5 start...Junior attacker Danielle Mormile (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) continued her fine play with five goals in the win over Binghamton on Tuesday. Later in the week, she followed with a four goal effort against SFPA, a contest in which she also scooped up six ground balls. After tallying eight points all of last year, she has easily eclipsed that figure with 27 goals and 30 points on the year to date. In all, she had ten goals last week...Junior defender Vanessa Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) is now ninth in the nation in caused turnovers with 2.36/game...Senior Christy Smallman (Boxford, MA/Masconamet) is second in the NEC with 1.57 assists per match and ranks sixth with 3.21 points per match...The Bobcats are back in action on Friday at Monmouth in a first place showdown before hosting Longwood in its regular season finale on Sunday.

Robert Morris (0-13, 0-7 NEC)
Robert Morris fell three times in three days last week, losing home decisions to Quinnipiac (15-0), UC Davis (17-2) and CCSU (14-3)...Freshman attacker Josephine Zizic (Chicago, IL/Culver Academy) scored three times and added an assist. She tickled the twines twice vs. the Blue Devils to raise her season point total to a team-high 13...The Colonials wrap up play in 2005 at Sacred Heart on Sunday.

Sacred Heart (8-6, 2-4 NEC)
The Pioneers split a pair of matches last week, knocking off host Marist, 17-10, before suffering a 15-5 setback at Monmouth...Freshman midfielder Katie Salamone (Baltimore, MD/Towson) tallied five times and added an assist vs. Marist. On the year, she ranks third on the Pioneers with 21 goals, seven assists and 28 points...Senior JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) scored four times and recorded an assist in the victory to raise her team-leading totals to 33 goals, 10 assists and 43 points in 2005. She is sixth in the NEC in goals per game and seventh in points per game...Sacred Heart closes out the regular season with home tilts against St. Francis (PA) on Friday and Robert Morris on Sunday.

St. Francis (PA) (1-9, 1-6 NEC)
St. Francis (PA) lost three matches at home last week, falling to Binghamton (16-4), CCSU (11-6) and Quinnipiac (14-3)...Senior midfielder Katy Green (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) scored five goals in the three-game span for the Red Flash. The senior tallied twice against both Binghamton and Quinnipiac and netted a goal versus CCSU...Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Morgan (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) totaled 33 saves during the week, including a school record-tying 18 against Quinnipiac...The Red Flash wrap up 2005 by hosting Howard on Wednesday and then travelling to Sacred Heart on Friday.

Wagner (6-8, 4-2 NEC)
Wagner played just once last week, but earned a terrific win, dealing previously unbeaten (5-0 in NEC play) Mount St. Mary’s an 8-7 setback in Staten Island. The loss also snapped a 17-game win streak in league play for the Mountaineers...Wagner is now in fourth place, and will look to secure a place in the four-team NEC Tournament this week...Senior Leann Matta (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air), who ranks third in the NEC with 36 goals and second with 49 points this season, tallied a game-high four markers to go along with an assist in the contest. She scored the Seahawks' only goal in the first half before tallying twice in the see-saw second period. Matta's final goal came unassisted as she raced from 20 yards out with just eight seconds to go in regulation. It was Matta's second game-winning goal this season...Senior goalkeeper Erica Brown (Havertown, PA/Haverford) had 13 saves vs. the Mount, many of which came from point blank range...Junior Darby Biggart (Crownsville, MD/Arch. Spalding) corralled three more draw controls in the win over the Mountaineers and she continues to lead the league with 37 this season...The Seahawks travel to Iona on Wednesday, before closing out the regular season slate with home matches vs CCSU on Friday and Long Island on Sunday.
