Five Questions With Tristan Blackwood, CCSU

With the loss of Justin Chiera and Lenny Jefferson, what do you see your role being in the backcourt this season?

My role is to be a leader for this team and continue to improve my ability to score points. Justin and Lenny gave a lot to this team last season and with them gone it falls on a few of us to pick up the slack.

What have you learned most from Coach Dickenman?

Coach D has taught us to play with a high level of energy at all times. We can’t take plays off on offense or defense or it will hurt the team as a whole. Coach teaches us to give everything we have on every play.

Describe your experience representing Canada in various amateur competitions?

International ball is a different style of play and I’ve gotten the chance to watch several different players and learn from them. The chance to compete for my country is an honor and I am proud to represent them on the national teams. I’ve learned a lot and my game has improved tremendously.

Which guards in the NEC give you the most trouble, both offensively and defensively?

One of the best players we have ever faced was Landy Thompson from Mount St. Mary’s - he always gave us trouble before he graduated. He had the ability to make big shots and score when his team needed him to score. James Williams from LIU is always a tough player to compete against. He’s one of the top guards in the league and has had a good first couple of seasons. I like to play against the best guards. It’s the only way to improve your game.

What one game do you have circled on the schedule this season and why?

Our goal is to reach the championship game, so I would have to say that we have circled that date on our calendars.
