2009-10 Bryant Women's Basketball Preview
Bryant takes the next step in its reclassification from a Division II power into its new Division I home. The Bulldogs' first season playing a full Division I schedule resulted in an 11-18 record, including six wins over Northeast Conference members.  Now, they will play full league schedule.

"To go out and win 11 games in the first year and really have competed all year long with the exception of maybe three games, we're definitely proud of the effort," said Mary Burke who enters her 19th season as head coach.  "Are we hanging any championship banners?  Absolutely not.  We are accustomed to success and I want to continue to improve our program."

Unlike last season when Bryant played 21 games away from home, Burke's veteran-laden roster will make 15 appearances at the 2,600-seat Chace Center.  "The bus became our home away from home last year.  The fact that we can have 15 home games this year will help us out a little bit and maybe push us over the top in some of those games that we're close," said Burke.

In addition to a less rigorous schedule, Burke is looking forward to the return of senior forward Kelsey O'Keefe.  The Bulldogs' leading scorer (16.3 ppg) and rebounder (7.8 rpg) last season can pretty much do it all.  She grabbed a team-high 226 rebounds while also sinking a Bryant-best 50 three-point field goals (36.5% 3FG). "We've always felt that she was a Division I player and last year she went out and proved it," said the head coach of her top returnee.

A healthy Adrianne Mayshar should further strengthen Bryant in the post, an area Burke defines as the team's strong suit.  The 6-foot-2 center played sparingly last season when she was bogged down by injury.  Siamone Bennett (6.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg), a slashing type, gives Burke another strong option in the frontcourt. The head coach said the 6-foot-2 Bennett brings a lot more confidence into her junior season.
