Game #1: #1 Long Island 9, #4 Robert Morris 0 (5)
May 14, 2010
The 2010 NEC Softball Championship at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ began with an overwhelming defeat by #1 Long Island over #4 Robert Morris, 9-0, in five.
The Blackbirds struck first as 2010 NEC Player of the Year Bianca Mejia (Sylmar, CA/El Camino Real) belted a solo shot to lead off the LIU batting arsenal. That started a three-run first inning that was followed by three more runs in the second and the third inning.
The second round-tripper of the game came in the third inning as Brynn Lewis (Woodinville, WA/Woodinville) celebrated her birthday with a three-run shot to end the scoring at nine.
The 2010 NEC Pitcher of the Year Blaire Porter (Redmond, WA/Redmond) threw a complete game allowing just three base runners. Jaci Timko (Houston, PA/ Chartiers-Houston) and Sarah Capp (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour) were the two Colonials who came away with hits.
LIU advances to the 5:00 p.m. game where it will face the winner of the Monmouth-Quinnipiac game, while RMU will face the loser of that game at 2:45 pm.
