Game #2: #2 Monmouth 6, #3 Quinnipiac 0
May 14, 2010
The second game of the 2010 NEC Softball Championship was another shutout as Monmouth hurler Lauren Sulick (Canfield, OH/Canfield) completed the game for the 6-0 win allowing only two hits.
Senior Alexa Ferrara (West Caldwell, NJ/West Caldwell) led off the bottom of the second with a single down the right field line that was followed by a two-run home run by sophomore Chelsea Paprocki (Manassas, VA/Forest Park) on a full count. The homer was the first of the sophomore’s career, and it gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth frame, junior Emily deLong (Rothschild, WI/DC Everest) brought in two runners with a line-drive shot over the fence in left center field, putting MU up 5-0.
On the QU side, All-NEC First Team pitcher Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, CA/Capistrano Valley) struck out five batters and walked only two. With only two hits, coming from freshman Lauren Salgado (Covina, CA/Bishop Amat Memorial) in the first and senior Katie Allendorfer (Glenside, PA/Abington) in the sixth, the Bobcats were unable to put together a consistent attack to find home plate.
MU now will face LIU at 5:00 p.m. and QU will go up against RMU at 2:45 p.m. in the first elimination game.
