Fairleigh Dickinson won six-straight titles until Robert Morris claimed its first of two straight titles in 1995. FDU won the inaugural title in 1985, but since-departed Loyola (MD) took the next four before FDU went on its run. Central Connecticut State won the 1997 title in its first year in the NEC. In 1998-99, UMBC broke the NEC Tournament record by 23 strokes in its first year in the conference and went on to repeat in 2000 and earn the league's first NCAA Tournament bid. The Retrievers made it three straight in 2001 with a slim two-stroke victory over Central Conencticut State. CCSU dethroned the three-time defending champion Retrievers in sub-par conditions in 2002, winning by six strokes over Monmouth. The Blue Devils repeated in 2003, edging Robert Morris by just two stokes. Long Island rallied on the final day to win its first league title in 2004. CCSU returned to the top of the pecking order in 2005, taking home its fifth NEC championship and fourth in the least five years. St. Francis (PA) became the seventh NEC school to take top honors, winning its initial crown in 2006. The tournament was changed to a three-round format in 2007 with Long Island winning by one stroke over Saint Francis (PA). Sacred Heart captured its first league championship in 2008, while Monmouth's Anthony Campanile became the fourth two-time individual champion of the event with a four-under-par 212. Sacred Heart repeated in 2009, the first year the NEC individual champion (CCSU's Eric Hawerchuk) received an automatic berth in the NCAA Championship field. Saint Francis (PA) rallied to win the 2010 title by a single stroke over Sacred Heart, spoiling the Pioneers' hopes for a three-peat. FDU's Robert Cerabone qualified for NCAA individual play. Sacred Heart came back a year later to win its third championship in four years, while RMU's C.G. Mercatoris advanced to NCAA regional play. Moount St. Mary's won its first NEC title in 2012 and Sacred Heart's Leo Garcia represented the NEC at NCAA regionals. Saint Francis U won its third NEC championship in 2013 with LIU Brooklyn's Josh Waters winning the individual title. Bryant won its first NEC title in 2014 and Sacred Heart's Peter Ballo took the individual crown, defeating Bryant's Ryan Tombs in a playoff. In 2015, Robert Morris won its first NEC championship since 1996. LIU Brooklyn's George Williams, who won the 2015 individual title, made an impressive run at the NCAA New Haven Regional, finishing 11th of 75 golfers, shooting a two-under 208 over three rounds. Wagner earned its first-ever NEC championship in 2016, beating Bryant in the first playoff in tournament history. Likewise, FDU's U Minn Woon defeated Bryant's Ryan Tombs in a playoff to claim the 2016 individual crown. Bryant earned a runaway victory in 2017 to win its second NEC title, while Wagner's Anton Frondelius shot one-under to take home the indvidual title. CCSU claimed its first NEC championship in 2019, while SHU's Saptak Talwar beat CCSU's Anthony Sebastianelli in a playoff to come out on top in the individual race. RMU returned to the top in 2019 with FDU's Florian Schroedl taking home individual honors. LIU won a tight race in 2021 to capture the program's first tile since 2004. SHU's Saptak Talwar became the fifth two-time individual winner, with his three-under 213 tying for the third-lowest 54-hole score in tournament history. SHU ended an 11-year drought in 2022, winning by five strokes. LIU captured its second title in three years in 2023 as freshman Marcelo Mexsen tied the championship record with a 4-under 212. Records were shattered in 2012 as Howard shaved 10 strokes off the previous conference standard, shooting 5-under for the event on its way to the crown. SHU's Marcus Lim won his second NEC individual title and also set a new meet standard in 2024, shooting 8-under over the three rounds. Howard staged a remarkable rally on the back nine of the third round to repeat in 2025.
The Retrievers' Tim Walko set an NEC Championship record in 1998-99, shooting a two-under-par 142, which was then broken the following year by UMBC's Mike Ball. Ball, a freshman, shot a four-under-par 140. St. Francis (PA)'s Eric Couture shattered Ball's mark in 2003, firing a seven-under-par 135. SHU's Marcus Lim holds the 54-hole mark with an 8-under 208 in 2024.
